Supporting Students with Dependents

Cal Poly Humboldt Financial Aid is readily available to support our students with dependents and ensure academic success while managing the busy life as a parent.

Here are some important financial aid consideration and campus resources for student parents:

  • Financial Aid is intended to support you, the student. Your aid refund will likely no be enough to cover all family expenses. However, there are several resources on campus which you could utilize that are designed to support you in a variety of ways.
  • You can request a Cost of Attendance Appeal for the cost of childcare, and any other allowable education-related expenses that you incur during the academic year. These expenses are used to increase your overall Cost of Attendance for the year, potentially creating room in your financial aid budget for additional scholarships or loans. We encourage you to first meeting with a Financial Aid Advisor to review your award package, your Cost of Attendance, and the process for submitting an appeal. You can schedule an appointment by clicking the "Contact" link at the top of the page.
  • California Student Aid Commission (CSAC) offers an additional grant source for students with dependents. This is an increase to the Cal Grant Access grant for students who have dependent children that are under the age of 18, and whom they provide more than half the child's financial support during the academic year. To learn more about the Cal Grant Student with Dependent award, visit the CSAC website for more information.
